A New Chapter of Freedom: Jeanne and Brian’s vibrant retirement at Oak Tree Taylor Street

Jeanne and Brian have been residents at Oak Tree Taylor Street for four years now, and they describe their move as nothing short of transformative!

“We were living locally on a much larger property,” Jeanne recalls. “Brian was putting in hours of gardening, and I was still working, not realising how much of a burden the upkeep had become.”

The decision to downsize actually came as a surprise to Jeanne. “One day, Brian announced that we needed to move, and I was taken aback because we hadn’t had much discussion about it,” she admits. However, the decision quickly proved to be the right one.

Everything happened rapidly for them. “We sold our house in just three days and moved shortly after. It’s been heaven ever since,” Jeanne shares. Reflecting on their journey, she believes fate played a part in leading them to Oak Tree. “I think some higher power was directing us here. When we toured the unit that would become our home, we instantly loved it and knew it would be a great fit!”

Jeanne emphasises how the landscaping and design of the village provide a sense of privacy despite the close proximity of neighbours. “It’s beautifully landscaped. Even though we’re close to others, the trees and bushes create this wonderful feeling of seclusion—you truly feel like you’re in your own space.”

For the couple, downsizing has brought countless advantages. “The unit is so manageable,” Jeanne explains. “The space is flexible—you can personalise it however you want, change the carpets, colours, and window coverings to make it your own. Plus, it’s so easy to access the Village Centre where activities are always happening.” She adds, “But the best part is you can join in as much or as little as you like. There’s no pressure, just the freedom to live the lifestyle you want.”

Social connections have also flourished since their move. Despite both being hard of hearing, Jeanne and Brian enjoy the social gatherings in the village. “We can join in on outdoor barbecues or takeaway nights depending on how noisy it gets. People here are very understanding—they speak slowly and clearly so we can be part of the conversation.”

The supportive environment, including a “very intelligent, sensitive village manager who’s a great communicator,” has made all the difference for them. For Jeanne and Brian, Oak Tree has become the perfect blend of independence, community, and comfort.
