Oak Tree Retirement Villages officially marked the commencement of construction on the final stage of its boutique Darling Heights village this week, celebrating the milestone with a Turning of the Sod ceremony at 136 Platz Street, Toowoomba.
The event signified the start of works on the final 35 villas, completing the Oak Tree Toowoomba vision and strengthening the organisation’s long-term investment in the region.
Guests included Toowoomba Regional Council Councillor Tim McMahon, Michael McNab, Executive Chairman McNab Constructions, together with members of the Oak Tree Group Board and wider team, residents, and local project partners.
“This is an important step forward for our community,” said Cr McMahon.
“As our region continues to grow, it’s essential we invest in quality housing solutions that support senior residents to remain connected, comfortable, and close to everything they value.”
When complete, the Platz Street village will include 55 quality villas, offering a mix of two- and three-bedroom homes alongside existing shared community amenities including a Village Centre, outdoor swimming pool, and bowling green.
The first new villas will be available from Q3 2026, with project completion expected by early 2027.
“Oak Tree is proud to be growing our presence in Toowoomba,” says Christine Gilroy, CEO Oak Tree Group.
“We’ve invested in the region since 2012 and are honoured to give local seniors the opportunity to downsize and retire in a place they know and love.”
In keeping with Oak Tree’s commitment to regional investment, the Platz Street homes are being delivered in partnership with local trades and suppliers, supporting local jobs and industry.
“Partnering with local businesses is central to how we work,” said Luke Thomas, Group Development Manager, Oak Tree Group.
“We believe in building not just retirement villages, but lasting community relationships.”
