Pat turns 100!
Oak Tree Retirement Village Skye resident Pat Howells turned an amazing 100 years old on the 29th of July and what celebration was held by all who know her!
The long term resident has always been a true character in the Village and barely seems a day older than when she first moved into the Village seven years ago.
Origionally from Whittington, Lichfield in England her father was stationed in Germany fighting the enemy and "I bet my mother thought she was doing the same giving birth to me," she jokes.
Looking back on her long life, Pat recounts numerous moves in her time, largely the result of her father being restationed in the army, and fond memories such as presenting the Queen Mary a bouquet of flowers and meeting the Bee Gees.
She first visited Australia with her husband when in 1974 on a holiday and knew she would return some day to live - that she did in 1979.
Asked what the secret to longevity is and she reinforces "it all comes down to good wholesome living - no smoking, no drinking, and exercise. Two mars bars of a morning and the occassional McDonald's Fillet-o-fish does the trick too."
But it's clear its the love of her family and friends that she lives for most.
"I have 8 children, 18 grand children, 26 great grand children and don't even ask me how many great great grand children I have but I know three were born this year," she laughs.
A friend to all, Pat was treated to a grand celebrity style party attended by all Oak Tree residents, family and friends.
From all of us at Oak Tree - A very happy birthday and we are so proud to have you as part of our family.
