Park Avenue celebrates a 60th wedding anniversary
There was cause for great celebration recently at Park Avenue as two of our happy residents reached 60 years of marriage together.
Shirley Sands and Ryszard ( Richy) Ziebicki were married at St Patrick’s Church by Father Con Daly on a sunny Saturday the 5th September in 1953.
Now, all these years later, here there are at Oak Tree as happy as can be! Shirly and Richy have resided at Oak Tree for over 5 years and were, in fact, one of the first people to take up residence in the village.
To celebrate their massive milestone everyone took part in a big celebratory morning tea.
Making the day extra special were Shirley's keepsakes - some 60 years old themselves! We all marvelled at her slim fitting wedding gown, her scrapbook with wedding cards, and then all the anniversary cards, wedding photos and the white gloves Richy wore on the day - how romantic!
It wouldn't have been a proper celebration without a cake and then everyone enjoyed a wonderful presentation of all of the relevant family photos from the past 60 years, prepared lovingly, by son-in-law Ian Muller.
They received commendations from the Queen, the Prime Minister Mr Rudd, the Governor-General, Quentin Bryce, The Pope, and the Mayor Margaret Strelow which were on display for us all to see.
The celebrations continued on Saturday night were Shirley, daughters Maryanne and Belinda catered for a big dinner just for the family held in the community centre. Shirley and Richy have 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, many of whom were here to celebrate with them.
Congratulations Shirley and Richy. Thank you for letting Oak Tree be part of your special day.
