Cairns is Stepping up in 2014
The Steady Steps Program has launched again for 2014 at Oak Tree Cairns for another 12 weeks of gentle exercises and falls prevention strategies.
This 12 week program has been running for a few years now and is growing in numbers.
It is run by the Positive Ageing Group (Pagers) who are a volunteer group looking after the welfare of older people.
Their motto is 'healthy people, healthy places', and along with the exercises they plan to have a guest speaker talk to the participants after the exercise sessions about other health related issues, eg physiotherapists, chemists, podiatrists, etc.
The Steady Steps program is endorsed by the James Cook University who have helped devise the exercise program. The Oak Tree Cairns community centre will be busy now every Thursday from 10am with exercises and then a chat and a cuppa for morning tea.
Our residents are very lucky to have this free program right here on their doorstep and can access this whenever they want.
