The Travelling Oak Tree Group

The 10th March marked my first anniversary with Oak Tree. On reflection I am amazed at the very Australian trait of travelling without much consideration to the distance involved…..especially within the Oak Tree Group. Within the last month I have had two trips visiting councils and sites. The first trip took in Townsville, Ayr, Mackay and Rockhampton in only three days. The second trip, also over three days included Cardiff, Boolaroo, Mudgee, Dubbo, Orange and Bathurst.

These adventures into the nether world of bureaucracy are always challenging and bring us closer to our communities. The personality of a region is reflected in their representation through their elected officials and therefore the community at large.

I am struck by the climatic differences and cultural diversity evident in each region. These differences are none the less full expressions of Australia. This is not surprising for “Aussies” but I looked at a map of the world and if I had travelled the same distances within Europe I would have crossed at least five different nations with corresponding language and cultural differences.

Our Oak Tree Group is growing and it affords us a unique view of Australian life. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
