Diamonds are a girl’s best friend

On a recent visit to Park Avenue to enjoy our Directors’ Italian inspired luncheon, I was fortunate to share a table with Shirley and Richie who will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary in the coming weeks. They have invited all of the Park Avenue residents along with family and friends to mark this occasion and will be commandeering the village Community Centre to hold the event. I get a real buzz out of seeing our wonderful village facilities being used not only for the day to day scheduled social events but for special occasions like anniversaries, weddings and birthdays.

At Oak Tree we appreciate the task of downsizing from your large family home to a villa in a community can be a daunting thought, but when you keep in mind the many benefits of living in a community surrounded by like minded friends and without the burden of maintaining that large home, I think many of our residents make the transition relatively well. Particularly knowing the village facilities are an extension of their home and can be used at their leisure.

Just like Shirley and Richie, you are welcome to entertain family and friends in your new home and in the community centre as you wish.

A little trivia for you…the traditional symbol for 60 years is a diamond which comes from the Greek word ‘adamas’ which means unconquerable and enduring. Many also believe that the fire in the diamond symbolizes the constant flame of love.

On that note, I wish to acknowledge Auriel and Allen who recently moved into our Toowoomba village and are celebrating their 61st anniversary later this year. With the recent commencement of construction of the community centre and facilities, I promise to have it built and finished ready for your celebrations.

Congratulations to all of our residents who have remained unconquerable and enduring and live to share these wonderful occasions with the Oak Tree family –  you are an inspiration. Thank you.

Until next time,
