Companionship

I was recently in Cairns visiting our village and assisting in hosting our open days which were hugely successful. It’s always lovely to be in Cairns this time of year to enjoy the warmer weather. During my rather hectic visit I caught up with many of our residents at the Friday night happy hour. Friday night happy hours are always a big event and it was great to see residents sharing many laughs, stories and some pretty serious games of pool.

I was chatting to one of our residents and was saddened to learn that her husband had recently been moved into a care facility. She was still adjusting to life by herself and told me that each night for the first three weeks after her husband leaving, Oak Tree residents invited her to their place for dinner. They all knew her situation and rallied around her to give her support and comfort. It’s when you hear friendship and companionship stories such as this that you truly appreciate the untold benefits of community living. It was a heart filling moment for myself and I was so proud of all my residents for their friendship and support.
