On Wednesday the 1st of May, Oak Tree are partnering with the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Foundation to support brain aneurysm awareness – a cause that is very close to our hearts at Oak Tree Burpengary, and in particular Rose, one of our residents.
Rose’s beautiful granddaughter Annie Barnett was left fighting for her life two years ago at the young age of 21, following a rupture of two brain aneurysms and a stroke. Annie was a seemingly happy and healthy young woman in the prime of her life, studying and working part-time when her life was turned upside down.
Following numerous surgeries and a lengthy recovery, Annie is now thriving! She’s finished her university degree and is working full time at the Burpengary Community Club as the Marketing Coordinator.
Annie is amongst countless others, including some of our residents at Oak Tree Burpengary, who have been affected by brain aneurysms or strokes in some way. Given their severity, spreading the word about prevention, risk factors, and symptoms is so important, and Annie is on a mission to bring awareness to the forefront of people’s minds and inspire others with her incredible survival story!
To help Annie achieve her goal, we are hosting a High Tea Luncheon at Oak Tree Retirement Village Burpengary on Wednesday May 1st from 11am to 2pm. This will be an incredible opportunity for our residents and the wider community to come together and support such an important cause!
Our guests will have the opportunity to meet Annie and hear firsthand her touching story, how it’s shaped her life and what her mission is for the future. Alongside Annie we’ll be hearing from another guest speaker – a researcher from the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Foundation who will provide some enlightening information on brain aneurysms and explain how our contributions from the event will be making a difference.
As the fundraiser is being held on May 1st, we’ll also be incorporating traditional May Day festivities! There’ll be a maypole set up with purple ribbons hanging from it in honour of the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Foundation, in which guests can donate $5 to purchase a ribbon and have a dance!
Every ticket purchaser will automatically go into the draw for our lucky door prize, and we’ll have additional raffles with the chance to win a selection of beautiful prizes that support our local businesses.
The amazing Year 10 students at Burpengary State Secondary College will be catering the event, providing delicious home-made sweet and savoury treats for our guests! We will also have a violin and cello duo playing throughout the entire day to create a beautiful atmosphere.
All the funds raised from ticket sales, raffle ticket sales, maypole ribbon purchases, and any additional donations made via the tap2donate on the day will go directly to the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital Foundation (RBWHF) who fund brain aneurysm research.
