Spring brings blooms
With spring here, the village is awash with the first flourishes or flowers.
Resident Fran has many beautiful orchids, some that she has had for years, but her newest one, a cattleya, is one she has only had for a few years, and this is its first flower.
The bud was there for ages and we have been waiting somewhat impatiently for the warmer weather so we could see it blossom. Blossom it did, with 2 huge flowers.
It is called ‘powder puff’ in a soft mauve with a darker throat. It’s outer petals are shaped a little different to the usual cattleya and has a sweet perfume.
Fran’s skill in producing some wonderful flowering orchids amazes me, actually I’m just a tiny bit jealous of her beautiful specimens.
