Retirement Villages a Care-Free Choice

Australia’s ageing population means now, more then ever before, there is a greater choice of retirement living options available, but when it comes to choosing - downsizing and maintenance of the family home, is the biggest trigger causing seniors to choose a retirement village lifestyle says research conducted by The Oak Tree Group.

Owners and operators of seven villages throughout Queensland and Victoria, the Oak Tree Group has consolidated lead data generated through enquiries, finding seniors consider the idea of downsizing to a smaller home with less maintenance – including no longer having the responsibility to up keep lawns and gardens - the main reason for wanting to make the move to a retirement village.

Following and ranked equally, came the need for companionship and declining health.

Money, travel, family influence and security were also ranked as triggers in the decision making process.

“The difference between buying a smaller home to retire in, versus moving into a retirement village, is lifestyle,” said Oak Tree Director Marco De Pasquale.

“Many people choose this lifestyle as it promises an easier way of life without strenuous maintenance plus the opportunity to meet like-minded neighbours giving our residents the chance to expand their circle of friends and build a support network they can rely on,” he said.

Having recently achieved 200 plus sales across all of its villages, the Group has also noticed a drastic improvement in resident’s health and wellbeing since making the move to a village.

“Statistically retirement villages are known to help keep residents actively engaged in life,” said Marco De Pasquale.

“When you are stimulated to interact, think, move, and engage the mind remains active slowing the aging process.”
