The Croquet and Bocce Team
Senior's Week Celebrations
Oak Tree Retirement Village Burpengary residents are only now just coming up for air after a mammoth week doing all sorts to celebrate Queensland's Senior's Week.
Village Manager, Cheryl Eklom, wanted to show case the resident's various talents as well as arrange a mix of activities which would appeal to many interests.
The week kicked off with a free information morning tea to introduce some new services in the village and then the real fun began.
The village hosted a pie drive which saw 120 pies, 80 pastries and 40 cakes baked and sold raising money for the resident’s social committee, a craft and art display showing off residents’ best canvas paintings, card making and sewing talents, and in true Olympian spirit, a mini Olympics consisting of Ping Pong, Quoits, Croquet and Bocce for all of those interested in a bit of “a hit and giggle.”
Senior’s group U3A visited the Village to show residents the different activities they do and provide information on how they too can be involved. And on the back of a recent successful travel adventure shared by a group of Oak Tree residents, the Village also hosted a travel expo with guest speaker, Sharon, from Proud Mary who specialise in cruises along the Murray River. All this shared over an afternoon of cheese and wine. How relaxing!
"A great week of fun was had by all....now we all need a week of pure relaxion to get over the excitement," says Cheryl.
