At Oak Tree we understand the true value of investing beyond bricks and mortar. Each year the organisation hosts a mid-year conference with the focus being to upskill Village Managers and staff which involves workshops on village operations, improving customer service, working closely with local trades, connecting with community, training on progressive IT systems and exciting new initiatives to benefit all residents.
Conducted over three days, Village Managers travel far and wide to attend with our furthest being Cairns, however it was the team from Central West New South Wales who benefited the most by escaping the cold of Orange and Bathurst and thawing out in rays of sunshine.
The decision to host in Goonellabah was twofold. Firstly, recently completed recreation facilities and Village Centre made an ideal venue for the event and secondly, an opportunity to support local business after the devastation of the floods in March. With over thirty staff in attendance, local restaurants, cafes, retail and motels have benefited by the decision.
Familiar face, proud Village Manager and long term local Catherine Bashforth has been extremely busy with the completion of stage two and residents moving in, preparing for the conference and settling into the recently completed Village Centre. Later this month stage three will be finalised and another eight groups of residents will join the rapidly expanding community.
The key to our success has been recruiting locally, our staff are part of the broader community with roots beyond their employment. It is the connection to schools, sport and personal interests that provide for well-rounded individuals which is what we are looking for when seeking staff. We are investing in our people, they are our brand.
If you have been driving by on Ballina road and noticed the activity, it might be time to stop by and visit Catherine for a tour of the recreation facilities and learn more about Retirement Village living in Goonellabah.
